NO MORE TALK - ACTION FOR THE VAQUITA IS NEEDED NOW

When I initiated Operation Milagro in 2015 I knew then that there was only one way to prevent the extinction of the Vaquita Porpoise.

The Vaquita Refuge in the upper region of the Sea of Cortez has to be 100% protected from poachers.

I am confident that our pulling nets is the only reason the Vaquita has no yet gone extinct. We confiscated over 130,000 meters of illegal net.

My control over Operation Milagro ended in 2019 and so did the policy of pulling nets.

Today we are watching as the Mexican government and the Mexican Navy continue to do very little, refusing to enforce the prohibition of nets in the Vaquita Refuge.

If this policy continues there will be no hope for the. Vaquita porpoise. Not a single net should be allowed to be set in the Vaquita Refuge.

The truth is that Mexico does not possess the will to enforce the protections in the Refuge.

If this continues, the government of Mexico will be responsible for the extinction of the Vaquita.
